Travel: Please note that tuition does not cover airfare from your home to Røros, Norway. Participants must make their own travel arrangements to Røros airport, where we will meet on September 7th and drop you off on September 16th.
Fitness: You do not need to be a highly experienced outdoorswoman to come on the Nordic Woman retreat, but you should have a baseline level of stamina and fitness to be able to walk for multiple hours over rough terrain, through potentially wet, windy and cold weather. In addition to local walks, we will do several day hikes up to 4-10 miles (6.5-16km).
Weather: The latitude, high elevation above sea level, and the exposure/closeness to open wild mountain tundra landscapes make the weather a serious partner to deal with. In September, extreme weather shifts can occur with temperatures ranging from blue skies and sunny, 20° Celsius (68° Fahrenheit) to rain, hail and snow at 10° Celsius (50° Fahrenheit) — with the wind chill bringing it down to freezing.
Gear: Mountain equipment with strong waterproofing and wind protection is required for all outdoor activities. We will equip you with a detailed gear list and give supervision in a group video call beforehand so you will be prepared for all our activities during the retreat. As the saying goes: there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.
